Bradford, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford Baseball team held a special event prior to the beginning of their annual alumni game, as they honored Donny Johnson, a longtime fan and friend of the program.

The Panthers presented Donny to a cheerful crowd at a short pregame ceremony, gifting him new Pitt-Bradford athletics apparel, including new hats, an accessory that Donny is rarely seen without. Johnson was also given a baseball and softball signed by current and former Panther student-athletes and coaches. The ceremony came to a close with Johnson starting the action on the field, as he threw out the ceremonial first pitch to begin the contest.

“Donny Johnson is not only a dear friend of mine, but also to the Pitt-Bradford Baseball family and the university as a whole,” said Athletic Director, and former Baseball coach Bret Butler.

Johnson worked at Pitt-Bradford in the mail office and was an ever-present fan of Pitt-Bradford athletics, and could always be found in the dugouts, and on the sidelines supporting the Panthers. Johnson was inducted into the Pitt-Bradford Athletics Hall of Fame in 2002. He was also an avid supporter of Bradford Area High School sports teams.

Recently, Donny has moved out of the area. His consistent presence at the fields and his avid support have been greatly missed by the programs since his departure.

“It is our privilege to be his friend, and in his retirement, honor him for his many years of service to the Pitt-Bradford and local communities. What he has given us over the years, is much more than we have given him,” Butler added.
