BRADFORD, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's volleyball team opened up Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action Saturday hosting a quad match at the KOA Arena.
"We came out and played really well against La Roche, but we didn't carry that into our second game against Mount," Head Coach Tom Roof said. "We made way too many hitting errors and Mount played really well. We still have a lot of season left, but we can't afford to lose many more conference matches. Against La Roche, defensively when we keep balls in and get them to our hitters, we're really hard to stop. But we had trouble getting our offense going against Mount. 1-1 is not awful, but it's not what we wanted out of today."
Hilbert, La Roche and Mount Aloysius were all in attendance for a pair of matches apiece.
The Panthers opened the day battling La Roche and took care of business in three sets.
Already with a conference win under their belt, the Panthers took on Mount Aloysius in the second game of the afternoon and fell to the tough Mounties, 3-1.
Against La Roche, the Panthers won the first set in dominant fashion, 25-10, then won set two, 25-18.
Pitt-Bradford closed the book on its first AMCC victory by winning the third set, 25-20, and knocking 19 kills.
Riley Anderson hammered a game-high 13 kills and Emily Cleveland was close behind with 12. Katie Treat had eight kills and Elizabeth Johnson contributed seven.
Payton Orzech assisted 36 of the team's kills.
Laura Hildebrand had 20 digs as the Panthers' libero.
At the net, the Panthers had five solo blocks and eight assisted, highlighted by two solo blocks each from Anderson and Alexandra Segura and two assisted by Johnson, Orzech and Anderson.
Orzech and Anderson recorded 12 digs apiece for a double-double.
The second game of the day was much different, as the Mounties came out and took the first set, 25-16.
Pitt-Bradford battled back, though, and took the second set.
Segura put the exclamation point on the set win with an emphatic solo block that set off the KOA Arena crowd.
But the Mounties would not falter, bouncing back with 25-17 win in the third set.
Mount Aloysius completed the victory to improve to 2-0 on the day with a 25-13 win in the fourth set.
The Panthers had a tough time hitting, but Cleveland managed nine kills and Anderson had eight.
Orzech assisted 31 and had 20 digs for her second double-double of the day.
Hildebrand had 22 digs to lead the team.
At the net, Segura totaled three solo blocks and assisted a pair, while Faith Williams also assisted two.
Up next, the Panthers will hit the road for a non-conference game at Buffalo State Wednesday. The next AMCC action will take place at the KOA Arena Saturday as Franciscan comes to town.
