Panthers Earn Fourth Straight Win Over Houghton Tuesday

BRADFORD, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's volleyball team defeated Houghton in four sets Tuesday to pick up its fourth-straight victory of the season.

"That's a good win against a team that always plays us really tough," Head Coach Tom Roof said. "We didn't play our best, but we grinded it out. I thought Elizabeth Johnson had her best game of the season yet, which is nice to see after all the work she's put in. We didn't have a great night hitting, and we need to cut down on our hitting errors. But, I thought we had a good presence at the net and that was a big difference in the game tonight."

With the win, the Panthers pull to an even 5-5 on the season.

Riley Anderson led the team with 19 kills while Emily Cleveland knocked 14. Elizabeth Johnson contributed nine kills.

Payton Orzech assisted 44 of the team's 55 kills.

Laura Hildebrand, Alexis Constantino, Anderson and Orzech were all in double-figures in digs, led by Hildebrand's 28.

At the net, Alexandra Segura led the squad with five blocks assisted with Johnson assisting four and Katie Treat assisting three.

The two teams put together a back-and-forth first set, with the Panthers eventually pulling away at the end to win it, 25-20.

Set two belonged to the Highlanders, who built an early lead and never looked back. Pitt-Bradford rallied, though, with Orzech and Anderson serving.

But Houghton eventually captured the set, 25-18, and leveled the match.

The Panthers bounced back in the third set and held off Houghton, 25-23.

Pitt-Bradford then went onto earn the victory with a dominant 25-15 win in set four to capture its fourth-straight win.

Up next, the Panthers will travel to Wooster for the Ginny Hunt Kilt Classic to compete in four matches Friday and Saturday.
