Women's Soccer Celebrates Seniors, Falls to Pitt-Greensburg

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford Women's Soccer team took on 1st place Pitt-Greensburg on Saturday, falling to the Bobcats 9-0. The game also served as the Panthers' Senior Day as three graduating players were recognized.

Before the action began, the Panthers recognized seniors Alannah Allen, Emily Goetz, and Sadie Wood. The trio of seniors share 83 games played and 68 times. They have battled through injuries and losing a season to the COVID-19 pandemic all while receiving academic and team accolades for multiple seasons.

The Panthers faced a tough task coming into the match as the Bobcats came into the game dominating their opponents to the tune of 46 goals scored and 11 allowed. This trend continued, as the visitors maintained constant pressure on the Panther goal. Sadie Wood was able to keep the Bobcats off the board with two early saves, but the visitors broke through in the 9th minute. They added two more in the 17th and 21st minutes before Emily Goetz was able to take the first shot of the game for the Panthers in the 22nd minute. The Bobcats resumed their attack after the Goetz shot, scoring 5 more times in the half, taking an 8-0 lead into the break.

As the second half began, the Panthers made a quick foray into the Greensburg end that resulted in a shot on goal for Goetz. The visitors regained momentum after the shot, keeping the Panthers from taking a shot for the rest of the game. The Bobcats continued to push for more goals, but Wood kept them off the board for 40 minutes, making 9 saves in the half and coming off of the line to make several more plays on attackers who were unable to shoot. The Panther defense stood strong for the majority of the half but allowed the 9th and final goal in the 87th minute.

Sadie Wood finished the game with 16 saves. Emily Goetz took both Panther shots, putting one on goal.

The Panthers fall to 0-12 with the loss and 0-4 in AMCC play. They will return to action on Wednesday, October 19th when they host Alfred State in their final home game of the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
