Goetz Scores Twice in Panther Loss

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's soccer team hosted Hilbert on Tuesday, playing their 2nd home game in a stretch of four in a row. Emily Goetz scored 2 goals in the game as the Panthers fell 5-2 to the Hawks.

The Panthers fell behind early, as Hilbert was able to open the scoring on their first attack of the game. The Hawks were able to collect a pass inside the box and fire a close-range shot high to the near post to beat Sadie Wood. Wood was able to keep the Panther deficit at one for the next 40 minutes, as she made 6 saves in the half. Unfortunately, after she made a close-range save on the 6th shot, which was collected by a Hilbert attacker, who slid a shot into the net to double the lead just before halftime.

The visitors added to their lead after the break, scoring on their first effort in the 2nd half, just as they did to start the game. A Panther clearance sliced to a Hilbert player on the wing, who was able to take a shot and beat Wood to push the lead to 3-0. 5 minutes later, the Panthers were able to strike. After a foul over the half line, Emily Goetz took the resulting free kick and hit a long ball into the box. The ball was not touched by any players on either team and found the corner of the net. The goal was Goetz's 2nd of the year.

The Panthers' goal was answered in the 71st minute, as Hilbert was able to score their 4th goal of the game as a low cross was collected near the 6-yard box and finished into the goal. 5 minutes later, Goetz would strike from a free kick yet again. From inside the final third, Goetz fired a high shot that beat the Hilbert keeper high for her 3rd of the year. Hilbert was able to add a 5th goal in the 80th minute, as an attacker snuck between Wood and a defender, toe-tapping a shot into the goal.

Emily Goetz recorded her 2nd career 2-goal game, matching a performance in her freshman year, also against Hilbert. She currently has 3 goals on the season and has scored in consecutive games. She totaled 6 shots in the game, putting 4 on goal. Riley Stowe was also able to put a shot on goal. Sadie Wood made 6 saves in the game.

The Panthers fall to 0-11 on the season and 0-3 in AMCC play. They will host Pitt-Greensburg on Saturday, with the day also serving as their Senior Day Game. The action is scheduled to begin at 4:15 p.m.
