BRADFORD, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's soccer team picked up a 3-1 victory over Penn State-Altoona in its Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opener.

"We played really well today," Coach Peter Butler said. "We contained Altoona's leading scorer for 88 minutes of the game and had solid offense to back up a strong defensive effort."

Pitt-Bradford wasted no time in gaining an early lead.

Just four minutes into the game, Kaitlyn Williams danced around defenders and gained space, knocking the shot past the keeper.

Shortly before halftime, the Panthers doubled their lead as Meghan Stuck held possession close to the right sideline, about 30 yards from the net. She sent a long, looping ball toward the goal that sailed over the keeper's head and into the net, putting Pitt-Bradford ahead, 2-0.

Around the 60-minute mark, the Panthers put together a strong offensive attack and pushed its lead to 3-0.

A pair of corner kicks pressured the Altoona defense, and eventually, Abby Celesky knocked one past the keeper off a pass from Kaitlyn Donnelly.

At the 75-minute mark, Altoona's leading scorer, Shoshana Mahoney, fired a shot from just inside the box and put the Lions on the board.

The 3-1 final score would hold, giving the Panthers a 1-0 start to conference play for the sixth time in seven years.

The Panthers outshot Penn State-Altoona, 15-11, and put 11 shots on goal.

11 different Panthers made up the 11 shots on goal.

Donnelly, Celesky, Stuck and Meghan Thomas fired two shots each.

In goal, Sarah Dailey made five saves.

Pitt-Bradford will be in action next on Wednesday, welcoming Alfred State.
