Panthers Defeat Penn State-Behrend on Senior Night

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford wrestling team picked up a 41-12 victory over Penn State-Behrend in their final dual match of the season.

After forfeiting the opening match, the Panthers received two straight forfeits of their own for Jestin Poruban at 133 and Farhid Negahban at 141. 

Eli Hernandez wrestled in the first contested match of the night at 157. He easily dispatched his opponent, defeating him by tech fall with a score of 19-4.

Seniors Tyler Newton, Victor Elias, Nate Powley, and Shaquan Bagot all picked up victories by forfeit in the next four weight classes to put the Panthers ahead 41-6 and break the program record for team points in a dual match. 

Senior Matthew Ristau was unable to pick up any further points as he fell by pin at 1:57 in the heavyweight matchup.

Prior to the match, the Panthers took a moment to recognize their six seniors. Eli Hernandez, Nate Powley, and Victor Elias have been a part of the program since it became a varsity sport in 2018-19. Ristau and Bagot joined in 2019-20 and Tyler Newton started with the team this season.

The Panthers will be back on the mat this weekend when they compete in the NCAA Mideast Regional. It will be held in Elizabethtown, Pa. on Saturday, February 26th.
