Panthers Fall to JCC in Home Opener

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford wrestling team competed in front of a home crowd for the first time this season on Friday night, falling to Jamestown Community College 29-15 in a dual match.

Eli Hernandez was the lone Panther to pick up a contested victory in the matchup. Wrestling at 157, he defeated his opponent with a 6-2 victory by decision. Jestin Poruban and Tyler Newton picked up victories by forfeit at 125 and 165.

The Panthers stayed with the Jayhawks through 6 weight classes but lost two tightly contested matchups at 174 and 197 to end their chances of victory. Vic Elias lost a tough match by decision at 174 by a score of 5-3 and Nate Powley in the same fashion while wrestling up a weight class at 197. His score was 6-4.

The Panthers will be right back at it tomorrow when they host their first tri-match in three years. The Panthers will host Thaddeus Stevens and Lycoming with the action beginning at 3:00 p.m.
