Panthers Pick Up Victory Over Penn State Behrend

The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford closed out their home schedule on Wednesday night with a close victory over Penn State-Behrend. The Panthers and the Lions finished the action tied at 27, however, Pitt-Bradford took the extra point for criteria due to two Panther pins.

  • Nate Powley had a dominating win at 165 that saw would be crucial in the Panther victory. Powley got out to a double-digit lead midway through the second period but was able to flip his opponent and get a pin at 5:38. The extra point for the victory by fall as opposed to a technical fall helped to even the score for the Panthers.
  • Derek Ridgeway also picked up a victory by pin fall at 184. He made quick work of his opponent, earning the Panthers the 6 points in only 43 seconds.
  • Elijah Hernandez was able to pick up a victory by decision despite moving up weight classes. He won by a score of 7-2 at the 149-pound weight class. 

The win was the Panthers' 3rd of the season and their 2nd over an opponent who competes in the AMCC. They will return to action on Sunday, January 19th, when they will wrestle in the Mount Union Open. The tournament is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
