WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's wrestling competed against stiff competition in the 18-team Waynesburg Invitational Saturday.

Mitch Dowd was the team's top performer, placing sixth in the 197 weight class.

"The guys did really well overall, but there's still lots of stuff we need to work on in the practice room in the next couple week," Head Coach Colin Johnston said. "It was good to see Mitch place sixth in his weight class."

In the 133 class, Colton Davis eventually picked up a forfeit win in the consolation third round.

Neiko Kuntz advanced to the quarterfinals of the 141 weight class with a 5-3 decision win against an opponent from Waynesburg. He later moved to the consolation bracket with an 8-2 defeat in the quarterfinals.

Victor Elias (157) also made it to the quarterfinals of his weight class, picking up a pin in 2:59 against an opponent from Ohio Wesleyan to advance. He was eventually eliminated by 5-2 decision.

Nate Powley (174) was eventually eliminated in the second round of the consolation bracket.

In the 184 weight class, Quentin Ellis pinned his opponent from Trinty in 2:08 to advance to the second round, where he was later eliminated.

Dowd advanced all the way to the 197 consolation semifinals, where he was later eliminated.

He competed in the match for fifth place where he fell 5-2.

Also competing in 197, Daniel Sibel was eliminated in the second round of the consolation bracket.

Competing in the event along with the host Waynesburg was Alderson Broaddus, Alma, Alfred, The Apprentice School, Case Western Reserve, Gettysburg, Lake Erie, Mt. St. Joseph, Muskingum, Ohio Valley, Ohio Wesleyan, Trinity (Conn.), Thomas More, UMBC, Washington & Jefferson and Wilmington.

The 18 total teams are the most in the history of the eight-year event.

The lineup features a mixture of Division II and Division III teams.

Up next, Pitt-Bradford will host the first home action in program history Saturday, Jan. 12, as SUNY Brockport and Thiel.
