Pitt-Bradford Softball to Host Penn State-Behrend in Non-Conference Doubleheader

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford softball team will be playing in their second doubleheader in as many days on Sunday, as they host Penn State-Behrend for two non-conference games.

The Panthers enter the games after a sweep of Penn-State Altoona on Saturday. The Panthers used strong pitching performances from Jordan Uhing and Kerrigan Hoffmann to pick up 5-1 and 7-2 victories. Gabby Carpenter had 3 hits, 3 runs scored, and 2 stolen bases in the two games. Hannah Lathrop drove in 4 runs and Lexi Peters hit her first career home run, a towering three-run blast, in the matchup.

Lathrop is the Panthers leading hitter, and run producer, as she is hitting .516 with 11 RBIs. Carpenter is hitting .394 and leads the team in runs scored, 11, and stolen bases, 9. Uhing has been dominant this season. She has compiled a 4-1 record with a 2.24 ERA. She is third in the AMCC in strikeouts, with 31. Hoffmann has also had a strong season in her final campaign with the Panthers. She is also 4-1, and has posted a 2.80 ERA.

Penn State-Behrend enters the day on a 7 game winning streak. This weekend, they swept LaRoche in the AMCC games of the week. The Lions have been paced by their offense, which has scored 116 runs in 16 games. Their lineup boasts 4 players who are batting over .400 with at least 40 at-bats. MacKenzie McIntire is leading the Lions in batting average (.471), and home runs (4) She has also driven in 20 runs. Freshmen Maria Jones has paced the pitching staff, posting a 3-0 record with 1 save. She has a 2.63 ERA. 

The Panthers and Lions met earlier in the week, with the Lions winning both games in the matchup. They beat the Panthers 10-2 in 6 innings in the opener, and after a 3 run Panther comeback, walked off the second game with an 8-7 victory.

Game 1 is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. with the second game starting shortly after.
