BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford softball team dropped both sides of a doubleheader at D'Youville Tuesday.

"Not the way we wanted the day to go, that's for sure," Head Coach Tina Phillips said. "We wasted many opportunities in the first game and struggled to get bats going in the second game. Still, not making the tournament doesn't sit well. But we are still very young and we just got to put the work in to get there. It was a very tough season with the weather, but we had a lot of positives to take away too. We want to thank our lone senior, Natalie, for her four years and saving her best season for last."

The Panthers move to 6-10 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference games, two games back from D'Youville, which holds the sixth and final playoff spot.

Maddy Hillery continued her hot streak and knocked a pair of hits in game one before dropping in a double in game two. She drove in a pair of runs in the first contest and sent one home in the second.

Game One: D'Youville 6, Pitt-Bradford 3

The Panthers got their offense going early with a run in the top of the first.

Betty Fratercangelo singled to leadoff the game and later scored on an RBI single from Hillery.

D'Youville answered in the bottom half, though, cashing in on a leadoff single and tying the game at 1-1.

In the fourth, the Spartans started off the bottom half reaching on a Panther defensive error. The runner moved up to second on a sacrifice bunt and later stole third.

But Morgan Bellush struck out the next two batters to lead the runner stranded at third and preserving the 1-1 tie.

The Spartans eventually broke through and took the lead in the fifth.

Back-to-back singles to start the bottom half came into score on a triple to left, and that runner came into score on an RBI single.

A two-run, bases-loaded double capped the scoring for the Spartans in the frame and they took a 6-1 advantage into the sixth.

Pitt-Bradford got one back in the top of the sixth as Grace Dadzaa led off with a single and later scored on Hillery's second RBI of the day. 

The Panthers put together a rally in the seventh.

Karissa Cratty led off the inning with an infield single, moved up to second on a Kendra Colegrove walk and then onto third on a groundout.

She then scored on an RBI single from Natalie Harding, cutting the Spartan lead to 6-3 and bringing the tying run to the plate with one out.

But a strikeout and a groundout left the runners stranded and D'Youville held on for the victory.

Morgan Bellush started in the circle and delivered five innings while striking out three.

Jordan Uhing came on in relief and worked a 1-2-3 sixth inning. 

On the bases, Dadzaa and Kennedy Cratty each stole a base.

Each team made one defensive error.

Hillery led the way with two hits while Dadzaa, Fratercangelo, Karissa Cratty and Harding had a base knock each to make up the Panthers' six total hits.

Game Two (Five Innings): D'Youville 10, Pitt-Bradford 2

The Spartans took a big lead in the top of the first scoring six runs, half of which coming on a three-run homer.

Pitt-Bradford scored both of its runs in the fourth. 

Madison East reached on an infield single and came into score on a double left center by Hillery.

Hillery then came into score on an RBI single from Kerrigan Hoffmann.

But four runs on five hits from the Spartans in the bottom of the fourth put them ahead 10-2 into the final frame.

Dadzaa worked a walk but the Panthers failed to cut into the deficit and D'Youville held on for the victory via the eight-run rule.

Hoffmann started in the circle for the Panthers and tossed the first three innings before turning the ball over to Uhing, who threw the final inning necessary.

East and Kennedy Cratty each stole a base for the Panthers.

The Panther defense made one error.
