Pitt-Bradford Swim Teams Set For 2018 AMCC Championships

BRADFORD, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford swim teams will compete in the 2018 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships hosted by Penn State-Behrend at the Junker Center from Feb. 14-17.

The four-day AMCC Championship will begin on Wednesday with the men's and women's 800 freestyle relays beginning at 6 p.m. and the women's 1-meter dive, men's 3-meter dive starting at 7 p.m.

On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, preliminary heats for all swimming events will begin at 10 a.m. with event finals starting each night at 6 p.m.

The Panthers men's 800-freestyle (7:16.62), 200-freestyle (1:29.67), 400-medley (3:34.85), 200-medley (1:37.49) and 400-freestyle (3:15.73) relay teams have earned seed times that project them to compete for first place in the events.

Kayla Broad has earned a seed time in the women's 50-freestyle (26.71) that gives her a real shot at the podium, as does her seed time in the 100-backstroke (1:07.39).

Pitt-Bradford occupies the top-two seed times in the men's 50-freestyle as Jared Schwab (21.41) and Benjamin Koss (21.89) are the two favorites heading into the championships.

The freshman tandem of Schwab and Benjamin Koss once again go one-two in the 100-backstroke and 100-freestyle seed times. Schwab the favorite in both at 52.57 in the 100-back and 47.92 in the 100-free, while Koss not far behind at 52.71 in the 100-back and 48.47 in the 100-free.

Schwab captured the top seed time in the 100-freestyle as well at 47.92.

The two-time AMCC Men's Swimmer of the Week Benjamin Koss has also captured the second-best seed time in the conference in the 200-freestyle (1:44.22) and 200-backstroke (2:00.68).

Benjamin's brother and the Panthers' lone graduating senior Corey Koss follows him closely with a seed time in the 200-backstroke of 2:06.01 – third-best in the conference.

Jillian Wright has earned the second-best seed time in the women's 200-breaststroke (2:44.54), and she aims to podium in the 400-IM (5:22.97) and 100-breaststroke (1:18.58).

Noah Frederick holds the fourth-best seed time in the men's 200-breaststroke (2:17.94) and Devyn Condon ranks just as high in the 200-butterfly at 2:10.39. 

The Pitt-Bradford men's swim team finished third in last season's AMCC Championship, just seven points back from runner-up Alfred State while the women's team is looking to improve upon a sixth-place finish last season.

Penn State-Behrend has captured every AMCC men's swimming and diving championship from 2007-17 and has won the women's conference title from 2007-2013, 2015-17. Cabrini captured the AMCC women's championship in 2014.
