BRADFORD, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford baseball team earned its second straight Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference sweep, taking both games against Hilbert Wednesday at the Kessel Athletics Complex.
Pitt-Bradford (13-9, 6-4 AMCC) captured game one 4-3 in walk-off fashion before taking the second game 9-3.
"Good sweep today," Head Coach Zach Foster said. "The guys grinded out that first game. Dattoli came up big. Bachy threw well. Game two, Eddy kept us in the game and Aires home run sparked us big time. Proud of the way the guys battled today."
With the victories, Pitt-Bradford has won four straight and five of its last six.
In game one, Justin Dattoli knocked an eighth-inning pinch-hit single to center to score Jake McNabb for the win.
Then in game two, Tyler Aires clubbed his first career homer to left to spark the Panthers' late-game rally.
A two-run triple followed by an RBI single in the second inning of game one gave Hilbert an early 3-0 lead.
Pitt-Bradford got two back on a two-run single from Matt Hair in the bottom of the frame.
The Panthers tied it an inning later on an Austin Parent RBI single.
The two teams went quiet for the rest of the regulated seven innings and all fans in attendance were treated to some free baseball.
On in relief, Alex Andrzejewski struck out the side in the top of the eighth, taking the tie to the bottom of the frame and giving his team a chance to win it.
McNabb roped a leadoff double down the left-field line then moved up to third on a Hair groundout.
Dattoli later stepped in as a pinch hitter and knocked the first pitch he saw to center field for the win.
Andrzejewski picked up the win on the mound in relief of Andrew Bacha, who started and went six innings allowing five hits and striking out seven.
Then in game two, Hilbert once again jumped out to an early lead on an RBI single in the first then plating one on a wild pitch in the third.
Pitt-Bradford got one back in the bottom of the third as Jason Lucarelli scored Sawyer Packard on a single to right.
After Hilbert grabbed another in the fourth, the Panthers tied it up on a McNabb RBI and a Hair RBI single.
Aires stepped in and broke the tie with a solo shot in the fifth followed by a pair of Panthers coming home on a Hilbert fielding error, taking a 6-3 lead into the sixth.
Kevin Rehak knocked a two-run double to the gap in right center then scored on a wild pitch to round out the scoring.
With the bases loaded and one down, Tyler Hoops leaped and snagged a ball over his head at short, then fired to third to double up the runner, ending the game and securing the sweep.
Logan Edmonds started on the mound for the Panthers and surrendered seven hits while striking out five in five innings of work. Nate Renick came on in relief for the final two innings, striking out two while earning his second save of the season.
Rehak, Lucarelli, Parent, Aires and Packard had two hits apiece to lead the team's 12-hit effort in game two.
Up next, Pitt-Bradford will wrap up its homestand hosting Pitt-Greensburg Saturday.
