2005, 2013 & 2021 AMCC Softball Coach of the Year

Tina Phillips is entering her 19th season as the head softball coach at Pitt-Bradford. In addition to her coaching role, she also serves as assistant athletic director, senior woman administrator and compliance coordinator.

Phillips has guided the softball team to an overall record of 314-305-4 in 18 seasons, including four AMCC championships, three NCAA Division III tournament appearances and two ECAC tournament berths. She has coached 75 all-conference performers, including the 2010 AMCC Newcomer of the Year, 2008 Player of the Year and 2013 and 2021 Pitcher of the Year. She has been named the AMCC Coach of the Year three times.

She has had eight players named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region teams and 58 NFCA Scholar-Athletes. Phillips has also had four players named to the ECAC South All-Region squad and currently has 10 players in the Pitt-Bradford Athletic Hall of Fame.

The Panthers captured the AMCC Tournament Championship in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2007, while finishing runner-up in 2006 and 2013. They were also regular season co-champions in 2006, 2010, and 2021.  

Pitt-Bradford has had five post-season berths, including appearances in the 2005, 2006 and 2007 NCAA Division III Tournaments. In 2004 and 2010, the team was invited to participate in the ECAC South Region Tournament.

In 2006, the Panthers went 35-9 and made their second straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The team also finished ranked No. 6 in the East Region. Pitt-Bradford finished the year as regular-season co-champions in the AMCC. The 35 wins that season are the most by any team at UPB.

In 2005, the Lady Panthers made the deepest post-season run in program history. After qualifying for the NCAA Tournament, Pitt-Bradford came within two wins from going to the World Series. The program also posted its third straight AMCC Tournament Championship.

The softball program has received recognition both within the conference and nationally. The program has been ranked in the NCAA in various statistical categories.

In 2013, the team opened its season at the new stadium complex on campus.

Phillips also served as the head coach of the Pitt-Bradford volleyball program for 12 years. She is the winningest coach in both the softball and volleyball programs history at Pitt-Bradford.

Her teams finished sixth or better every season in the AMCC and made all 12 conference tournaments. They have totaled 75 conference wins.

In 2010, Phillips directed Pitt-Bradford to the best season in school history. The Panthers won a school-record 22 straight matches and captured the AMCC regular-season crown with a perfect 9-0 record. Pitt-Bradford defeated Penn State Altoona in the conference tournament championship match to earn the program’s first-ever bid to the NCAA tournament. Phillips was named AMCC Coach of the Year for her efforts. 

Her teams have also done very well on the academic side, winning the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Award in both 2005-06, as well as 2014-15. The 2020 softball team won t e AMCC Peak Performance Award for Softball.

Prior to coming to Pitt-Bradford, Phillips served as the head softball coach at Russell Sage College in Troy, N.Y. from 1996-00 and was also the volleyball coach for two seasons and assistant athletic director. She coached the Adirondack Magic traveling softball team from 1999-00 and was the assistant softball coach at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y. In 2003, she helped guide the program to its first-ever first Skyline Conference championship and NCAA tournament appearance.

Phillips has been elected into both the Thomas Edison High School and Chemung County (N.Y.) Athletic Hall of Fames.  

She received her bachelor’s in physical education from the State University of New York College at Brockport in 1990, and earned a master’s in athletic administration from Springfield College in 2002.

Phillips currently resides in Bradford, Pa.

-Member of the National Association of Collegiate Women's Athletic Administrators, National Fastpitch Coaches Association and National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics.

-Currently serves on the NCAA Division III Softball Regional Advisory Committee.

-Has also served on the NCAA Division III Volleyball Regional Ranking Committee.

-She was the head coach in volleyball, girls' basketball and softball (65-24) at Thomas Edison from 1993-96 and was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 1999. She was named the Chemung County Female Coach of the Year in 1995. Phillips tallied her 300th victory at the helm of the Pitt-Bradford softball program in game two of the 2021 season.
