Volleyball Earns Third Straight USMC/AVCA Academic Award

Bradford, Pa. -- For the 7th time in program history, the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford Women's Volleyball team was recognized by the USMC and AVCA, receiving their annual Team Academic Award.

The award is distributed by the American Volleyball Coaches of America and the United States Marine Corps since the 1992-93 academic year. It honors teams who have matched their dedication to the sport of volleyball with excellence in the classroom. To qualify for the award teams must maintain a year-long grade point average above a 3.30 on a 4.0 scale. This year the Panthers were one of 1,213 programs to earn the award.

In the 2021-22 academic year, the Panther Volleyball team all thirteen players that were on the team's spring roster posted a GPA higher than 3.30. Additionally, ten players had a GPA of over 3.75 including eight players who earned a 3.8 GPA and two more that recorded a 4.0.

The Panthers were also recognized as being a Team Academic Honor Roll Winner, as their team GPA placed them in the top 20% of NCAA Division III programs. The team has previously won the 2022 AMCC Peak Performance Award for the second consecutive year, earning the highest team average GPA within their sport.

When asked about the accomplishment, head coach Tom Roof said, "Once again, I am incredibly proud of these players and their academic achievements. Each year they continue to raise the standard for excelling on and off the court. They make us all proud to be a part of the Pitt-Bradford Volleyball program.”
