Pitt-Bradford Tennis Returning to Action in 2022-23

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's and women's tennis teams are back and ready for action as they prepare for a full slate of contests this fall.

The women's team finished their 2021 campaign with a 2-8 overall record and a 2-4 record in AMCC play. They were able to pick up a 5-4 win over Mount Aloysius at home and then defeat LaRoche 7-2 on the road. The Panthers were in playoff contention until a tough 5-4 loss to Penn State-Altoona eliminated them from contention.

Madilyn Rodgers had a strong season for the Panthers as a freshman. Playing in the #2 singles position, Rodgers went 2-5 against top-quality opponents. Lydia Ehrensberger and Caroline Hance had the best doubles record for the Panthers, going 2-3 on the season.

Looking forward, the Panthers will look to a large group of upper-class players to lead the way, while a few newcomers will establish identities and roles of their own.

"Our upper-class players have demonstrated consistency and defensive skills throughout their careers, which will be key for us this season," said head coach Susan Schenfield. "Combining their experience with the talent of our new players will hopefully give us the depth needed to make a run into the postseason."

Using a group of new athletes in 2021-22, the men's team struggled in the wins and losses column but recorded great strides in terms of personal development.

Jermal Coleman, Luke Gratz, and Patrick Tolerico will all look to continue to grow in skill and experience as they move into a new season, while new Panthers Jason Gao, Hugh Kennedy, and Alex Maduakor will bring new energy to the team.

The women's team will begin their season with a doubleheader against Medaille on Tuesday, September 6th. The men will start on Thursday, September 8th, when both teams travel to Alfred University.
