Panthers Fall to Alfred, Raise Funds for Breast Cancer Awareness

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's tennis team lost their match to Alfred 9-0 on Wednesday.

Prior to the match, both teams commemorated those who have fought, are fighting and will fight against Breast Cancer, with the Panthers donating a certain amount of money for each game won.

While the final score seems lopsided, the match was very close as multiple matches had competitive finishes.

In doubles play, the Panthers lost all three matches but saw the top two matches end with close finishes. Lauryn Moore and Madilyn Rodgers lost at #1 4-8. While Caroline Hance and Lydia Ehrensberger lost at #2 5-8.

The singles competition saw the match stretch out into the night, and under the lights. The match of the day was in the 5th pairing. Lydia Ehrensberger won the first set 7-5 in a tiebreaker but lost the second in the same fashion 7-5. Before the third match could be contested Ehrensberger was forced to retire due to fatigue. Madilyn Rodgers also had a strong match for the Panthers, winning 7 games over two sets.

Overall the Panthers won 43 games, raising over $200 for Breast Cancer Awareness.

The Panthers fall to 2-5 with the loss. They have wrapped up their previously scheduled games but will look to add more matches this fall as the weather permits.
