Panthers Pick up 1st Win of the Season

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford Women's tennis team picked up its first win of the season on Saturday, defeating Mount Aloysius 5-4.

The Panthers were able to come away with one point in the doubles matches, despite battling in close matches at the top. Avitamarie Demieri and Jana Elenany picked the first point of the day for the Panthers, winning the third doubles match by forfeit. Caroline Hance and Lydia Ehrensberger put in a tough performance at number 2 doubles, but ultimately lost 6-8. In the top pairing, Lauryn Moore and Madilyn Rogers were able to win some games but fell 4-8.

As the match moved into singles play, the Panthers picked up a second point by forfeit, as Elenany was granted a win by forfeit at number 6. The Panthers lost the top two contested matches but were able to win the next three to secure the team victory. Hance won at number 3 by a score of 6-4, 62, Ehrensberger won 6-1, 6-1 at number four and Demieri shut out her opponent 6-0, 6-0 to clinch the win.

The win moves the Panthers to 1-2 on the season with a 1-1 record in AMCC play. Their next contest will be Sunday, Sept. 26th, when they travel to Pittsburgh to take on La Roche. The math is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
