Pitt-Bradford Women’s Tennis Falls to Houghton in Season Opener

BRADFORD, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's tennis team fell, 5-0, to Houghton College in its season opener Friday night at the Kessel Athletic Complex Tennis Courts.

Despite the loss, head coach Susan Schenfield was happy with how her team played against a tough Houghton team.

"We struggled a bit with our serves, but the heaviness and depth of our ground strokes was impressive, as was our quickness around the court," Schenfield said. "Overall, we played aggressively and I was happy with our determintation. I think that's going to be a strength for us in each of our matches this season."

Emily Fowkes and Alexa Holleran played well, but ultimately fell 8-5 to Houghton's Bethany Chisebro and Tori Neller at first doubles.

Holleran also played well at first doubles, taking the first set 6-3 over Chisebro, but the match was called due to lightning with the score tied 3-3 in the second set. Kayla Kerner also won one set at sixth singles, but fell 6-1 in the match.

The Panthers return to action Saturday, Oct. 12 at Pitt-Greensburg.
