Cercone Takes 4th in 100-Yard Breaststroke, Panthers Remain in 7th

Webster, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's swimming team was in action for the 3rd Day of competition at the Allegheny Empire Swimming and Diving Championships. The Panthers remained in 7th place at the event, as they increased their point total to 162.5 points through 27 events.

Isabella Cercone was the top finished for the Panthers on the day, as she took 4th in the 100-yard breaststroke. Cercone had the 5th best time in a hotly-contested preliminary round that saw 4 swimmers finish in a span of 0.29 seconds. In the finals, Cercone was able to cut two seconds off of her time, finishing in 1:09.94 to move into 4th place. Brooklyn Bellavia was also able to qualify for the finals in the event, finishing in 16th with a time of 1:35.05.

Two other Panthers were also able to qualify for the final rounds. Bailey Fedak finished the preliminary round of the 200-yard freestyle in 20th. In the finals, Fedak beat her first time by more than 3 seconds and was able to move up a spot to 19th place. In the 100-yard backstroke, Emma Slocum was able to secure a spot in the finals, as she finished with the 17th best time. In the second session, she posted a time of 1:08.36 to remain in 17th. 

The Panthers will be back in the pool for one more day at the Championship meet tomorrow. The Panthers will compete in six more events, including the 1650-yard freestyle, the 200-yard backstroke, the 100-yard freestyle, the 200-yard breaststroke, the 200-yard butterfly, and the meet-ending 400-yard freestyle relay. The preliminary rounds will begin at 10:00 a.m. with finals commencing at 5:00 p.m.
