Panthers Fall to Presidents in Final Tune-Up

Washington, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's swimming team was in Washington, Pa. on Saturday, as they took on Washington and Jefferson in their final dual meet before next month's Allegheny Empire Swim Championships. The Panthers picked up a few individual victories but ultimately lost to the Presidents 125-82.

Isabella Cercone picked up two more victories in both distances of the breaststroke. She started with the 100, where she won the race with a time of 1:15.45. A few events later she was able to come away with a much closer win in the 200. She finished in 2:41.42 which was 5.5 seconds better than the runner-up. She also swam in each of the relays, which took 2nd in their races. 

The Panthers picked up two other event wins, both in the longer-distance freestyle races. Madison Foote was victorious in the 1000, where her time of 13:30.23 was 6 seconds faster than the Washington and Jefferson swimmer in second. Emma Slocum took home maximum points in the 500. She won the event with a time of 6:16.57, more than 23 seconds ahead of the field. Along with their wins, the pair also took home a second-place finish. Foote was runner-up in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:46.97, while Slocum was 2nd in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:13.94.

The Panthers wrap up their regular season with a 2-7 record in dual meets. They will now move their focus to the Allegheny Empire Swim Championships. The joint championship meet between the members of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference and the Empire 8 will take place between Wednesday, February 14th through Saturday, February 17th at the Webster Aquatic Center in Webster, N.Y.
