Panthers win 1st Dual of Season over Chatham

Bradford, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's swimming team picked up their first dual meet victory of the season as they defeated Chatham 133-96 on Saturday.

Sophomore Isabella Cercone had another dominant day as she won all three of her individual events and swam the anchor leg in the winning freestyle relay team. Cercone started the day with a 10-second victory in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing with a time of 1:13.40. She followed this up with a 4-second win in the 50-yard freestyle sprint. She won the race in 27.21 seconds. Her third victory was in the 200-yard breaststroke where her time of 2L41.03 was 14 seconds ahead of her nearest swimmer.

Fellow Sophomore Madison Foote had a long, but successful day for the Panthers, as she won two events and took third in another. Foote began her day with a 12-second win in the long-distance 1000-yard freestyle. Her winning time was 13:48.03. Fourteen events later, Foote picked up her second win of the day in the 200-yard backstroke. She won again by 12 seconds, this time finishing in 2:47.83. She closed her individual day with a 3rd place finish in the grueling 400-yard IM, where she posted a time of 6:00.17.

Freshman Emma Slocum was the only other Panther to pick up multiple victories. She won the 200-yard freestyle by just over a second, finishing with a time of 2:17.02. She had a much easier finish in the 500-yard freestyle, where she won the race with a time of 6:17.53, 21 seconds ahead of her teammate Bailey Fedak in second.

Fedak was one of two Panthers to pick up a single win in the meet.  She was able to emerge victorious in a tight 100-yard freestyle, where her time of 1:00.51 was under a second faster than the second-place finisher. Freshman Willow Sandusky was able to pick up her first collegiate event victory, as she won the 100-yard backstroke. She was able to swim the race in 1:23.29, winning by 1.05 seconds.

After securing the victory earlier in the meet, the Panthers put an exclamation point on the win, taking the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Slocum, Foote, Fedak, and Cercone was able to win the relay by more than 16 seconds, posting a time of 1:54.68. The Panthers' second team of Hannah Westover, Sandusky, Brooklyn Bellavia, and Ruby Smith finished in third at 2:20.26.

The Panthers are now 1-3 in dual meets this season. They will be back in action next weekend when they travel to Baldwin Wallace for a 3-day invitational. The action begins on Friday, November 17th at 10:00 a.m.
