Cercone Shines in Panther Loss to Lions

Erie, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's swimming team took on the Penn State-Behrend Lions on Saturday, falling 173-53.

Sophomore Isabella Cercone continued her hot start to the season as she won two events and took third in another. Cercone dominated the breaststroke events, as she easily won both the 100 and 200-yard versions of the race. She swam the 100 in 1:12.98, outpacing her nearest competitor by 7 seconds. She was even more dominant in the 200, where she won by more than 10 seconds with a time of 2:41.62 seconds. Cercone also swam in the 50-yard freestyle sprint, taking 3rd place with a time of 26.85 seconds.

Bailey Fedak took home 2nd place in the 100-yard freestyle, while also competing in the 200-yard freestyle and individual medley events. She swam the 100 in 59.88 seconds, missing out on a win by just under a second. Fedak finished 5th in the 200-yard freestyle and 3rd in the medley.

Emma Slocum finished 3 freestyle events in the meet and added in a relay. She was 4th in the 200, 5th in the 100, and 3rd in the 500. 

The Panthers closed the meet with an uncontested win in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Slocum, Madison Foote, Fedak, and Cercone finished the race in 4:16.82.

Pitt-Bradford falls to 0-3 in dual meets this season after the loss. They will look to turn things around next weekend when they host Chatham on Saturday in the Duke Aquatic Center. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
