Panthers Complete Allegheny Empire Championships in 8th

Webster, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford Women's swimming team brought its season to an end on Saturday as they finished 8th at the completion of the Allegheny Empire Championships.

The final night of competition saw three Panthers qualify and compete in final rounds, while the team also swam in the closing 400-yard freestyle relay.

Isabella Cercone was the top Panther finisher on the night. Swimming in the 200-yard breaststroke, Cercone qualified for finals with the 6th-best time in the preliminary rounds, finishing in 2:37.17. In the finals, she trimmed her time down to 2:35.48 and remained in 6th place. Adriana Gallas finished qualification in an alternate position, posting a preliminary time of 3:23.73.

The other two Panthers to qualify for finals were Bailey Fedak who swam the 100-yard freestyle, and Madison Foote in the 200-yard backstroke. 

In the 100-free, Fedak qualified with a time of 1:00.96 and then finished the finals race in 19th with a time of 1:00.63. Macy Peterson just missed out on finals qualification, as she finished in the first alternate position. Her time of 1:10.50 was just over three seconds behind the final qualifying position.

Foote qualified for the 200-backstroke with a time of 2:38.53 in the prelims and then in the finals posted a time of 2:41.02 to finish in 20th. 

The Panthers closed their season with a 7th-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a final time of 4:19.97. Isabella Cercone opened the relay with the Panthers' best split, finishing her leg in 57.92 seconds. She was followed by Bailey Fedak who was able to finish the second leg in 1:00.92. Macy Peterson swam the third leg in her final collegiate action with a time of 1:10.59, and senior Adriana Gallas brought her career to a close with an anchor leg timed at 1:10.54.

Overall the Panthers were able to pick up four dual meet victories, the program's first since the 2016-17 season, and also improved their positioning at the conference championships by one spot. Along with team successes, the Panthers also saw individual wins, as freshman Isabella Cercone was able to set two program records in her freshman campaign.
