Panthers Compete on Day 3 of Allegheny Empire Swimming Championships

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's swimming team returned to the pool in Webster. N.Y. on Friday for the third day of competition at the Allegheny Empire Swimming Championships.

Two Panther freshmen qualified for finals competition on the day as Isabella Cercone finished 8th in prelims in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:11.17. Later that night in the finals, Cercone shaved nearly a second off of her preliminary time, which allowed her to move up two spots and finish 6th overall. Her time in the finals was 1:10.35. She was just 4 seconds behind the winner and the 2nd best finisher from the AMCC.

Fellow first-year Madison Foote was able to qualify for finals in the 100-yard backstroke. In the preliminary round, Foote qualified in 19th place with a time of 1:13.28. In the finals session, Foote was also able to improve her time, finishing in 1:12.27, which allowed her to improve one spot in the standings and finish in 18th. Macy Peterson just missed out on the backstroke, as she finished qualifying in an alternate spot in 22nd place. Her time was 1:24.35.

Adrianna Gallas and Bailey Fedak also just missed out on finals qualification in the 200-yard freestyle. They both finished in alternate spots with Fedak posting a time of 2:21.70 and Gallas finishing in 2:31.76.

After day 3 the Panthers remain in 8th place in the team standings with 102 points. They will return to action in the championship tournament one final time on Saturday. Preliminary rounds will begin at 10:00 a.m., with the finals beginning at 5:00 p.m.
