Panthers Compete in Sprints on Day 2

Webster, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's swimming team was back in action for their second day of competition at the Allegheny Empire Swimming Championships on Thursday.

Only two Panthers qualified for final events on Thursday as both Isabella Cercone and Bailey Fedak earned a spot in the finals for the 50-yard freestyle. In the finals, Cercone finished in 8th place with a time of 25.57 seconds, finishing 1 second behind the winner. Fedak finished with a time of 26.92 seconds to finish in 14th.

The Panthers also had a team compete in the 200-yard freestyle relay. They finished in 8th place with a time of 1:52.73 seconds. Cercone started the relay with a strong opening leg in 25.76 seconds and was followed by Macy Peterson, who finished the 2nd leg in 30.78 seconds. Madison Foote took the third leg and swam it in 29.16 seconds before Bailey Fedak closed the relay with a 27.03-second anchor leg. 

Peterson, Foote, and Adriana GAllas all competed in the preliminary round on the day. Foote and Gallas both finished their qualifying round outside the top 20 in the 500-yard freestyle. Foore finished 24th with a time of 6:14.28 while Gallas was 26th at 6:46.30. Peterson was 23rd in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 30.61 seconds. 

The Panthers finish day 2 in 9th place with 82 points. They will return to action Friday with more individual events. Preliminary rounds begin at 10:00 a.m. and finals start at 5:00 p.m.
