Cercone Sets Program Record as Panthers Split at Buffalo State

Buffalo, N.Y. -- Isabella Cercone set a University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's swim team program record on Wednesday as the Panthers split a tri-meet at Buffalo State. The Panthers picked up an 84-58 victory over Wells but fell to the hosts, Buffalo State, 133-39.

Cercone set the program record in the 100-yard breaststroke, besting the previous mark by .41 seconds. Her record-setting time was 1:14.50. The mark was previously set by Jillian Wright '19, at the 2018 AMCC Championships.

On the day, the Panthers were unable to come up with any event victories, however, along with setting the program best in the 100-breaststroke, Cercone had the top finishes for the Panthers, swimming in both relays and picking up a 2nd and 3rd place finish. She began her day in the 200-yard medley relay, posting a 34.10 split in the breaststroke leg of the race. The Panthers finished in 2nd. She followed that up with a 2nd place finish in the 200-yard freestyle. She swam the race in 2:13.02, finishing 1.32 seconds behind the winner, and .30 seconds ahead of the swimmer who took 3rd. Her record-setting performance came in a third-place finish, as she was .10 seconds off of 2nd place in the race. She closed with the anchor leg in the 400-yard freestyle relay, posting a split of 1:00.70, the best for the relay.

Bailey Fedak also had a 2nd and 3rd place finish, while also swimming in both relays. She swam the butterfly leg of the medley relay in 35.04 seconds to begin the meet. Her first individual race was the 50-yard freestyle, where she took 2nd with a time of 27.93 seconds. In the 100, she took 3rd place, as her time of 1:02.59 was just .38 seconds behind 2nd place. In the 400-freestyle relay, Fedak swam the lead leg with a time of 1:03.43.

Adriana Gallas took 4th in the 50-yard breaststroke in 42.07 seconds and finished 2nd in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:52.44. Madison Foote placed 2nd in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:19.58 and added a 3rd-place finish in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 36.96 seconds.

The Panther medley relay took 2nd place with a time of 2:19.12, while the freestyle relay finished in 4:26.23, good for third.

The Panthers now have a head-to-head record of 3-7. They will return to the pool this weekend, as they travel to Penn State-Altoona for a quad meet competing against the hosts, Chatham and Franciscan.
