Cercone Wins Three as Panthers Fall to Redhawks

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford Women's swimming team returned to action in the Duke Aquatic Center on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Isabella Cercone put in a strong performance, but the Panthers were unable to keep up with Roberts Wesleyan, who won the dual meet 132-69.

Cercone won three events and anchored the 200 freestyle relay to earn 31 points on the day. Cercone started her day off in the 100-yard breaststroke, where she nearly set the program record in the event. She easily won the race by more than five seconds, but her time of 1:15.13 was only .22 seconds off the record pace. After a short break, Cercone was back in the pool for the 50-yard freestyle. In the race, Cercone was able to out-touch her opponent from Roberts Wesleyan at the wall, winning by 2-tenths of a second. Her winning time was 27.56. She closed her individual tally with another win, this time breezing to victory in the 200-yard breaststroke. She won the race by more than 25 seconds, finishing with a time of 2:44.55. Cercone closed with the anchor leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay, completing the Panthers' best leg in 27.00 seconds.

Bailey Fedak was also able to pick up an event victory for Pitt-Bradford, winning the 100-yard freestyle. She won a close race, edging out her opponent by .21 seconds with a time of 1:05.06. Fedak also added 3rd place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle and the 50-yard freestyle. She swam the 200 in 2:22.36 and the 50 in 28.80 seconds. Adriana Gallas added 8 individual points with a pair of 3rd place finishes in the 200-yard breaststroke and 1000-yard freestyle and a 4th place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke. Madison Foote added 7 points in the backstroke event and finished second in the 500-yard freestyle, while Macy Peterson took 5th in a pair of events.

The Panthers are now 2-6 on the season. They will return to action on Wednesday, January 18th when they travel to Buffalo for a tri-meet with Wells and Buffalo State.
