Panthers Compete in Relays at Day 1 of Allegheny Empire Swimming and Diving Championships

Webster, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's and women's swimming teams completed their first day at the Allegheny Empire Swimming and Diving Championships on Wednesday, with each team submitting entries into the opening 200-yard medley relay events.

The Panthers men's team competed first, taking 8th place and receiving 30 points. They swam the race in a total time of 1:58.81. Aiden Wright got the Panthers started on the backstroke leg with a time of 33.18 seconds. Veterans Connor Weiss and CJ Faris too the next two portions of the race. Weiss swam his backstroke leg in 32.94 seconds, while Faris completed the butterfly leg in a time of 28.47. Owen Fitzsimmons closed the race with a 24.22-second freestyle leg.

The women's team submitted two teams into the event. The first team took 9th place to earn 28 points. They finished with a time of 2:21.38. Katie Anderton opened the race with a time of 39.02 in the backstroke and was followed by Adrianna Gallas who swam the breaststroke in 41.25 seconds. Bailey Frdak completed the Butterfly leg in 30.29 seconds, while Macy Peterson closed with a time of 30.82 in the freestyle. The second Panther team took 15th place, earning 12 points. Chloe Bellis (37.03), Eve Brink (48.51), Anna Killingbeck (34.97), and Stephanie Carson (31.45) successfully completed the race in a time of 2:31.96.

The women's team finished Day 1 in 8th of 9 places with 40 points. The men are in 8th of 8 with 30 but are just two points out of 7th.

Day two will resume tomorrow with preliminary rounds beginning at 10:00 a.m. and the finals at 5:00 p.m. Teams will compete in the 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard individual medley, 50-yard freestyle and 200-yard freestyle relay.
