Broad Wins Two Events Against Alfred State Friday

BRADFORD, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford swim teams competed in their final home meet of the season Friday, hosting Alfred State at the Paul C. Duke III Aquatic Center.

Alfred State came out on top in both the men's and women's competitions, defeating the Pitt-Bradford men 113-59 and beating the Pitt-Bradford women 145-22.

Prior to the start of the meet, the Pitt-Bradford Department of Athletics and swim programs honored Devyn Condon for Senior Day.

"We always enjoy competing with Alfred State," Head Coach Doug Alban said. "Today was no different as we had some great races. Prior to the meet, we celebrated the wonderful career of a true Panther, Devyn Condon. Devyn had a fantastic 100-butterfly race where he had a great closing 25 to capture the victory on his senior day. On behalf of the whole team and Athletics Department, I wish Devyn all the best."

Condon's victory in the 100-butterfly came in 57.77, edging out a close second-place finisher who timed in just 0.47 behind him.

Kayla Broad picked up the first victory of the day for Pitt-Bradford, winning the women's 200-freestyle with a time of 2:12.33, nearly five seconds ahead of the next-best finisher.

In the men's 200-freestyle, Calen Hansen picked up the dominant victory with a time of 1:53.70, almost seven seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

Chris Troll and Noah Frederick later timed in at second place in the next two men's events, Troll grabbing second in the 50-freestyle (24.43) and Frederick in the 200-IM (1:07.18).

Broad then finished second in the women's 100-butterfly with a time of 1:11.27.

Frederick later came away with the win in the men's 100-freestyle with a time of 54.54.

The second win of the day for Broad came in her final event -- the 100-backstroke. The victory came in dominant fashion and she timed in at 1:09.83, with the next best time being 1:17.17.

Hansen and Condon then finished one-two in the 500-freestyle, Hansen with a winning time of 1:00.87 and Condon right behind at 1:02.22.

Pitt-Bradford will have a quick turnaround as it heads to Penn State-Behrend Saturday for an 11 a.m. meet.

Note: Saturday's meet at Penn State-Behrend was originally scheduled for a 1 p.m. start but was moved up due to incoming severe winter weather.
