WOOSTER, Ohio -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford swim teams wrapped up their first day at the Wooster Invitational Thursday.

Pitt-Bradford is competing against tough competition during the three-day event. After the first day, the Panthers men's team is in ninth place out of 10 teams with 46 points. The women's team is in 12th place out of 12 teams.

"We got off to a slow start this morning, but we were able to get into gear tonight in our relays," Head Coach Doug Alban said. "We are looking forward to the next two days of racing in our better events."

For the Panthers men, Pitt-Bradford competed in the finals of the 200-freestyle relay and the 400-medley relay.

In the 200-free, the team of Chris Troll, Devyn Condon, Noah Frederick and Caleb Hansen trimmed more than four seconds from its seed time and came in at 1:32.78. The squad finished 15th overall.

Then later in the 400-medley, the team of Hansen, Frederick, Troll and Condon knocked off nearly 10 seconds from its seed time and came in at 3:48.56, 16th overall.

Earlier in the day, the Panthers competed in the preliminaries. The Wooster Invitational format scores the top-24 finishers.

Hansen trimmed nearly 21 seconds from his seed time in the men's 500-freestyle prelim at 5:07.49, and Condon was not far behind at 5:31.18.

Frederick cut nearly five seconds from his seed time and finished the men's 200-IM prelim in 2:10.65.

In the women's 50-freestyle, Alexia Garcia clocked in at 29.12, and Devin Kerr finished in 46.39 in the men's event.

Action will resume Friday with prelims at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m.
