Panthers Swim Hosts Alfred For First Home Meet

BRADFORD, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's and women's swim teams hosted Alfred for their first home action at the Paul C. Duke III Aquatic Center Friday.

Alfred came out on top on both sides, the men claiming a 119-53 win and the women an 82-37 decision.

"We had some nice races today after a tough week of practice," Head Coach Doug Alban said. "Yesterday was particularly challenging and they were able to respond well."

The Pitt-Bradford men's team got the event started the right way with a thrilling victory in the opening event – the 200-medley relay. The team of Caleb Hansen, Noah Frederick, Nathan Kim and Chris Troll finished in 1:43.56, finishing 0.03 seconds ahead of the Alfred 'A' squad.

Kayla Broad grabbed second in the women's 200-freestyle with a time of 2:14.68, and Hansen finished in second as well in the men's 20-free at 1:54.37.

Kim came in a close second in the men's 50-freestyle at 23.72.

Broad later earned the victory in the women's 100-butterfly with a time of 1:08.73, more than a full second ahead of the second-place finisher.

In the men's 100-butterfly, Troll was one of three competitors to break one minute, finishing second with a time of 59.14.

Frederick timed in a 53.81 in the men's 100-freestyle for second place, and Kim grabbed second in the 100-backstroke at 57.08. 

Broad finished in 1:13.15 in the women's 100-back.

In the women's 100-breaststroke, Alexia Garcia timed in at 1:18.89, finishing about a half-second behind the top time.

Frederick timed in at 1:03.81 in the men's 100-breaststroke, just a pair of seconds behind the top time. 

The Panthers men's squad of Devyn Condon, Hansen, Kim and Troll wrapped up the event with a time of 1:36.89 in the 200-freestyle relay.

The Pitt-Bradford swim teams will have a week off from competition before hosting Washington & Jefferson Saturday, Nov. 17.
