Wright Claims Win In 200-Breaststroke In Tri-Meet

BRADFORD, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's and women's swim teams hosted Wells College and Penn State-Behrend for a tri-meet Saturday at the Paul C. Duke III Aquatic Center. 

Prior to the start of the meet, the Panthers swim program honored Corey Koss for Senior Day.

"This was a truly special day as we celebrated the career of Corey Koss and he was able to be part of a new pool record in his final home dual meet of his career," Head Coach Doug Alban said. "This whole weekend was a great test for us as we have our conference championships in less than four weeks.  The energy was very high through both contests as the cheering was constant on every event.  We are very much looking forward to the last phase of our season."

Combined, the Panthers topped Wells College, 183-140. Pitt-Bradford fell to Penn State-Behrend, 247-100.

In just the men's events, the Panthers defeated Wells, 124-52. Penn State-Behrend came out on top over Pitt-Bradford, however, 139-61.

Wells defeated the Panthers women's team, 88-59, and Penn State-Behrend won, 108-39.

The meet started with a bang for the Panthers men's team as they claimed first in the 400-medley relay with a pool-record breaking time of 3:40.97. Corey Koss led off the event with Noah Frederick, Nick Boyd and Benjamin Koss rounding out the squad.

In the women's 200-freestyle, Jillian Wright took second place with a time of 2:24.54.

Benjamin Koss claimed the first individual win of the day with a victory in the men's 200-freestyle with a time of 1:48.45. 

Kayla Broad grabbed second place in the 50-freestyle with a time of 27.03. 

Jared Schwab claimed the victory in the event with a time of 21.94. 

In the men's 200-butterfly, Devyn Condon placed second with a time of 2:12.78.

Benjamin Koss later placed second in the 200-backstroke with a time of 2:05.20.

Wright claimed the first victory of the day for the Panther women in the 200-breaststroke with a time of 2:47.44, nearly nine-and-a-half seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. 

Frederick grabbed second place in the 200-breaststroke with a time of 2:21.27.

The Pitt-Bradford women's 400-freestyle relay team earned first place as Kayla Broad, Beyleigh Duda, Wright and Danica Andrews finished with a time of 4:31.14. 

In the men's 400-freestyle relay, Corey Koss stepped up to the starting blocks and received a round of applause before his final swim at home as Panther.

The team of Koss, Carey Behm, Condon and Schwab finished in 3:25.44 for third place.

Up next, the Panthers will head to Baldwin Wallace for its final regular season meet of the season before the 2018 AMCC Championships, which will take place from Feb. 14-17.
