School Records, Personal Bests Go Down In Day One Of Fredonia Meet

FREDONIA, N.Y. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's and women's swim teams completed the first day of their three-day mid-season meet at Fredonia Friday evening, featuring new school records and lifetime bests.

"Today was a fantastic day for us," Head Coach Doug Alban said. "Our preparations in the first half of the season are paying off in big ways. I believe we will continue to get even better as the weekend progresses." 

Jared Schwab highlighted the individual performances in the pool for the Panthers in the first day of action.

In the 50-freestyle preliminaries, Schwab finished first with a school record-breaking time of 21.73. 

In the finals during the evening's action, he broke his own school record as he captured the win in the 50-freestyle with a time of 21.41.

Benjamin Koss tied for third in the event with a time of 21.89.

Another school record went down for the men's team in the 800-freestyle relay as the team of Benjamin Koss, Carey Behm, Nicholas Boyd and Lucas Cerchiaro finished fourth with a time of 7:16.62, besting the previous school record of 7:18.35.

As part of the event, Benjamin Koss earned a school record for the 200-freestyle as he led off the 800-freestyle relay, finishing with a time of 1:44.22.

The women's 800-freestyle relay team of Kayla Broad, Beyleigh Duda, Danica Andrews and Jillian Wright each earned lifetime bests as part of the event, timing in at 9:33.32. 

The first scoring of the day came in the relay events during session one.

In the men's 400-medley relay, the team of Benjamin Koss, Noah Frederick, Lucas Cerchiaro and Jared Schwab finished second of the 17 teams with a time of 3:34.85. The 'B' team of Corey Koss, Justin Aharrah, Devyn Condon and Nicholas Boyd came in 13th with a time of 3:57.87. 

The Pitt-Bradford women's team of Kayla Broad, Jillian Wright, Beyleigh Duda and Danica Andrews finished 15th of 16 teams in the 400-medley relay with a time of 4:57.10.

Later in the finals, Carey Behm competed in the 'B' finals of the 500-freestyle, coming in 10th place with a time of 5:02.62, which bested his preliminaries times of 5:02.73. 

Cerchiaro then delivered a strong performance for the Panthers men's team. In the 200-IM, Cerchiaro finished second with a time of 1:56.71, dropping nearly three whole seconds from his preliminaries time of 1:59.39.

At the conclusion of the day's events, the Panthers' men's team holds second place while the women's team sits in ninth place.

Saturday's action will begin at 11 a.m. with the second session at 7 p.m.
