Panthers Edged in Home Finale

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford Women's soccer team played their final home game of the season on Sunday, falling to Carlow 2-0.

The visitors started off on the front foot, as they recorded the first 9 shots of the game. They were able to open the scoring in the 9th minute. After a through ball, Alyssa Andersen was able to make a tough save on a breakaway, but could not hold on to the rebound, and the Celtics were able to jump on the loose ball and pass it into the net. Anderen made three more saves before the Panthers recorded their first shot in the 25th minute. Off of a corner kick, Ainslie Gardner was able to put a shot on goal but it was stopped by the goalkeeper to keep the Panthers down one.  The Panthers had another good opportunity to tie the game in the 36th, as Hannah Clarke was able to find enough space for a close-quarters shot, but the angle was too tight and the Celtics goalie made the save.

The Panthers came out on the attack after the break, as Delaney Stowe chipped a shot toward goal but saw her effort sail over the crossbar for a goal kick. The Celtics added to their lead 5 minutes later, as they volleyed home a corner kick. Andersen was able to keep the Panthers within striking distance as she made 6 saves over the final 40 minutes. The Panthers' best opportunity to score in the second half came in the 77th minute. After a short clearance on a through ball, Makartnee Mortimer intercepted the ball and attempted a long shot to try and catch the goalkeeper out of the net. Unfortunately, the keeper was able to return to her box and make the save.

Alyssa Andersen made 12 saves for the Panthers in the loss. Pitt-Bradford was able to take 6 shots, putting 4 on target. Delaney Stowe led the team with 2 shots. Makartnee Mortimer, Hannah Clark, and Ainslie Gardner all had shots on goal.

The Panthers are now 0-13 on the season and 0-6 in AMCC play. They will head to Buffalo for their next game, as they will take on Hilbert on Wednesday. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at Varsity Field.
