Panthers Beaten by Highlanders

Houghton, N.Y.-- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's soccer team was on the road Tuesday, as they traveled to Houghton for a non-conference matchup with the Highlanders. The Panthers struggled to maintain possession and attack in the Houghton end, ultimately falling 7-0.

The hosts went on the front foot right away, earning a pair of corner kicks in the opening minutes. After Alyssa Andersen made a save in the 5th, the Highlanders struck, opening the scoring in the 7th. The attack continued after the opener, as Andersen made a pair of saves in quick succession. They earned another quick corner, and then after making some substitutions, scored a second in the 27th. Houghton added a third goal six minutes later, but Andersen and the Panther defense were able to keep the deficit at three heading into the half.

After the break, the hosts went on the attack again and scored two more times in the 53rd minute. They scored their 6th of the game two minutes later. The Panthers were able to settle in after the quick frenzy and kept Houghton off the board for the next 24 minutes until the hosts scored from a penalty in the 80th.

Alyssa Andersen made 15 saves for the Panthers in goal. All 11 players completed a full 90, as the Panthers were shorthanded due to a rash of injuries. They were not able to muster a shot in the game.

Pitt-Bradford is now 0-11 on the season. Their non-conference game at Penn, originally scheduled for Thursday has been canceled. They will be back in action over the weekend when they play a pair of AMCC matches. They will host Mount Aloysius at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at Parkway Field in Bradford. They will also make up a previously postponed match against Carlow on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. at Parkway Field.
