Shorthanded Panthers Fall to Bengals

Buffalo, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's soccer team returned to action on Wednesday night, falling 8-0 to Buffalo State in their first road contest of the season.

Due to a rash of injuries, the Panthers put forward a valiant effort as the 11 women who were able to play put forward 90-minute efforts.

Pitt-Bradford faced a near-constant attack from the hosts who were able to get off 55 shots and put 29 of them on target. Alyssa Anderson made three saves in the first five minutes of play before the Bengals were able to get one by her in the 14th minute to go ahead 1-0. They doubled their lead 10 minutes later and added a third in the 33rd minute to take a 3-0 lead into the break.

Anderson made two more quick saves early in the 2nd half, but Buffalo State added to their lead in the 52nd minute. The Panthers stood firm for 20+ minutes, but the Bengals were able to take advantage of their lack of substitutes, scoring 3 additional goals in a 5-minute span against a tired Panther defense.

Alyssa Anderson was able to make 21 saves in the Panther net. Her total is the second-highest number of saves in a match in all of NCAA Division III so far this season.

The Panthers (0-2) will regroup and return to action on Saturday, September 9th, when they travel to Alfred. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
