2022 Women's Soccer Season Preview

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's soccer team is ready to return to the field in 2022, as a young squad looks to continue to grow and improve on last season's results.

The Panthers come into the season after finishing their 2021 campaign 0-15-2. There has been a bit of turnover on the Panther roster as only 8 players return from last season. The newcomers will look to replace a productive graduating 2021-22 Class that graduated 6 players that totaled 140 starts including 43 from goalkeeper Emily Bethel and 52 from defender Katie Anderton.

"We are excited to get back in action," said head coach Melissa Graham, entering her 6th year at the helm of the program. "I'm looking forward to seeing how this young group comes together and rises up to find success this season."

The Panthers will look to a more experienced offensive attack, as three of the top 5 scorers from last season return. Alexis Gibbons finished last year 2nd on the team in goals with 3, despite only playing in 10 matches. Other returning goal scorers are Delaney Stowe (3 goals, 1 assist), Carolelyn LaPrairie (2 goals), and Emily Goetz (1 goal)

Graham highlighted junior Delaney Stowe as a key. player for the Panthers. "She (Stowe) has stepped up this preseason and will be a main piece for us due to her ability to play on the back line, in the midfield, and even in our attack if it is needed."

Pitt-Bradford's defensive line will be anchored by sophomore Kihara Gotshall and new player Delaynie Moore. Senior Sadie Wood will replace Bethel in net to start the season. Wood has played 13 games in goal over 2 seasons. She has made a total of 68 saves and has a 2-5 career record.

The Panthers will kick off their season on Thursday, September 1st, as they host Buffalo State. The game is slated to begin at 4:00 p.m. on the Soccer Field at the Kessel Athletic Complex.
