Emily Bethel Named AMCC Defensive Player of the Week

Official AMCC Release

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Freshman goalkeeper Emily Bethel of the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's soccer team has been named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Defensive Player of the Week for her performance during the week of Oct. 15-22, conference officials announced Monday.

"Emily has worked hard this entire season and her two shutouts this past week were crucial for us," Head Coach Melissa Lincoln said. "She made big saves in each game to keep us in it and she's done a great job all season."

Bethel had a perfect week in goal for Pitt-Bradford with a pair of clean sheets in crucial AMCC matches, shutting out Medaille Wednesday and Pitt-Greensburg Saturday.

The Hedgesville, W.Va, native made 13 total saves -- six against Medaille and seven in the overtime thriller against Pitt-Greensburg.

Bethel's stellar play kept the Panthers' playoff hopes alive as Pitt-Bradford needed to win both games and they did so each by a score of 1-0.

On the season, Bethel ranks fourth in the conference with 123 total saves.

Pitt-Bradford finished its AMCC schedule with a 4-4-1 mark, entering the week holding the sixth and final playoff spot but with other teams still with conference games yet to play.

The Panthers will wrap up their 2018 regular season with a non-conference game Wednesday at Alfred State.
