Slovick Takes 7th at NCAA Mideast Regional

Rochester, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford wrestling season came to an end on Saturday, as D.J. Slovick wrapped up the NCAA Mideast Regional by taking 7th place in the 165 lb. weight class at the event.

Slovick was the lone Panther to advance to the placement rounds, and depending on results could go on to finish as high as 3rd place.

He faced a tough draw in his first match and was unable to find his footing. He fell behind 9-0 and then lost by a pin at the 3:57 mark. The loss sent him into his final bout of the season, to decide his final placement. Slovick dominated his match, winning by a 10-3 decision and finishing in 7th. He jumped ahead 5-1 in the first period, getting a takedown at 1:12, and a 2-point near fall at 0:49. After his lead was cut down to two following a reversal in the second period, Slovick finished strong, outscoring his opponent 5-0 in the 3rd to close the match.

Slovick's 7th place finish at the regionals is the 2nd best in program history, falling just short of Sam Colebert, who took 6th in the 285 lb. class in 2018-19.

D.J.'s win brought him to a total of 10.5 points for the event, scoring more than 50% of the Panthers total. As a team, the Panthers finished tied for 18th with Keystone at 20.5 points.
