Panthers Defeat Shorthanded Jayhawks in First Dual of 2024

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford wrestling team kicked off the new year with a 35-10 dual meet victory of Jamestown Community College on Tuesday night.

The Panthers secured the victory before the action started, as the shorthanded Jayhawks forfeited 5 weight classes.

The Panthers did pick up a big tech fall victory from Nikolas Fegert, who won his match at 149 20-4. Mamady Traore had a strong showing as he nearly completed a huge comeback at 141. He trailed 10-3 before reeling off 5 quick points near the end of the bout. He fell short at the end, dropping the match by a 10-8 decision. 

After the match completed, three Panthers wrestled in exhibition matches. All three matches ended with a pin in the first period. Jacob Rodgers won his bout in 2:20, Raymond Worsen III won his in 1:25 and Fegert brought the match to a close with a pin in 2:14.

The Panthers are now 1-4 in dual matches this season. They will be away from home this weekend, as they wrestle against Penn State-Behrend, Alfred State and Hiram in the AMCC Quad match. The quad will be hosted by Hiram on Saturday with the action beginning at 12:00 p.m.
