Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford Wrestler Tyler Newton was recognized by the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference as one of its Wrestlers of the Week for his performance at the Penn College Quad Meet earlier this season.

At the event, Newton picked up three individual victories for the Panthers while wrestling at the 165-pound weight class.

Newton began his day with a 16-3 major decision victory against a wrestler from Penn College.

In his second match of the day, against Keystone, he shut out his opponent, picking up a 15-0 tech fall victory.

He closed the event with another major decision win against Centenary, defeating his opponent 12-3.

After joining the Panthers in December, Newton posted a 16-6 record that included an individual tournament title at the Jamestown CC Open.

Newton got off to an excellent start at the NCAA Regional meet this weekend as he won his first two matches. Unfortunately, Newton ran into the nation's top-ranked wrestler at 157 in the 2nd round, who was able to defeat Newton by pin to send him into the consolation bracket.
