Bradford, Pa. -- The National Wrestling Coaches Association has released their Scholar All-American Awards for 2021-22 and Pitt-Bradford Senior Tyler Newton was recognized by the association for his success in the classroom.

"I'm very proud of Tyler and the work he puts in on and off the mat," said head wrestling coach Blake Heim. "He's a tireless worker and I don't doubt the success he will achieve upon graduation."

Newton was one of 325 wrestlers across Division III to earn the honor. He is the first Pitt-Bradford wrestler to receive this award in the program's 4-year history.

To be recognized for this award a wrestler must have success on the mat while maintaining a 3.2 GPA. Newton finished the season with a 17-6 record while maintaining a grade point average well over the required minimum.

Heim added, "It was an honor to coach Tyler this season. He was a huge asset to the team, leading by example through his dedication in the practice room, as well as in the classroom."
