Panthers Finish AMCC Round Robin, Secure 6th Seed in AMCC Tournament

North Brunswick, N.J. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford bowling team completed their three-day stay at the 2nd AMCC Round Robin on Sunday, posting a 1-3 record on the day. Their lone win today, along with their total pinfall over both Round Robins secured the Panthers the 6th and final spot in the AMCC Championship Tournament in March.

The Panthers bowled in 4 final matches on the day, including two of the top three teams in the conference.

They began the day with a tough battle against Alvernia. The Panthers posted a respectable score, but could not keep up with the Wolves, losing the match 746-953. Erin Wales led the way for the Panthers with a score of 186, while anchor Brookelyn Garvey was just behind her at 181.

The Panthers followed that up with what became the playoff-clinching win over La Roche 779-645. Alexis Whitfield was the top bowler for the Panthers in the match, finishing at 177. Garvey was 2nd with a 166, while Sarah NEwland improved her score by 39 pins to post a 151.

Match three saw the Panthers take on top-seeded Saint Vincent, falling to the Bearcats 733-915. Sarah Newland posted the high game for Pitt-Bradford at 164. Garvey posted a score of 156 in the match.

The final match of the event would truly decide the final tournament spot, as the Panthers entered the match with a one-win lead on Pitt-Greensburg, as well as a 40-pin advantage from the first round robin. The Panthers fell short of securing the match through a win but were able to score enough to keep the deficit at 15 pins to clinch the spot after the 772-787 loss. Olivia Shultz rolled her best match of the day to lead the Panthers with a 163. Newland finished two pins behind her at 161, while Garvey and Wales both posted a 156.

For the day, Brookelyn Garvey posted the best average, 164 pins per game, despite not having the highest score in any of the matches.  Erin Wales averaged 161 pins per game, while Sarah Newland, Alexis Whitfield, and Olivia Shultz's averages were 147, 145, and 139 pins per game respectively.

Pitt-Bradford will be back on the lanes next Saturday when they head to Latrobe to bowl in Saint Vincent's Brother Lacy Tournament. The action is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. at Lincoln Lanes in Latrobe, Pa.
