Panthers Rally for Three Wins on Day 2 of AMCC Round Robin

North Brunswick, N.J. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford bowling team battled back from a tough opening day at the AMCC Round Robin to pick up 3 victories on the second day of competition in New Jersey. The Panthers defeated New Jersey City, Penn State-Behrend, and Mount Aloysius, before falling to William Smith in the last match of the day.

After a bye on the opening round of the day, the Panthers started competition in the second session with a match against the hosts, New Jersey City. The match came down to the wire and after 10 frames the teams finished tied at 784. The tie set up a 5-frame Baker bowling tiebreaker, in which each bowler would bowl one frame. The first four Panthers were able to post a mark in the tiebreaker, which led to an 85-77 Panther victory. Sarah Newland led the Panthers with a 182 in the match. Brookelyn Garvey bowled a 165 to post the second-best score. The other three Panthers all finished within 4 pins of each other as Erin Wales bowled a 148, Olivia Shultz posted a 145 and Alexis Whitfield finished at 144.

Pitt-Bradford built off the momentum from their tiebreaker victory in their first match as they breezed to an 847-697 victory over Penn State-Behrend in their second. Whitfield exploded for a career-best 200 to lead the Panthers in the victory. Garvey was right behind her at 192, while Olicia Shultz also improved her score, finishing at 159.

Match Three saw the Panthers continue to improve as they bowled their best match of the day in an 866-685 win over Mount Aloysius. Garvey posted her best game of the tournament as she bowled a 227 to pace the Panthers. Wales and Shultz also posted their best games of the day in the match. Wales rolled a 188, while Shultz continued to improve, finishing at 177.

In their final match, the Panthers faltered slightly and fell to William Smith 769-832. Newland had the best score of the match for the Panthers with 166, while Garvey bowled a 160 and Whitfield was a pin behind her at 159.
