Panthers Wrap Up Red Flash Invitational, Finish 10th

Altoona, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's bowling team completed the Red Flash Invitational on Sunday, dropping their three placement matches to finish the tournament in 10th place.

The Panthers entered the day in 8th place and would compete in three Baker-style mega matches to determine their final place. Winners were determined in a best-of-seven format.

Pitt-Bradford started the day with a matchup against Pitt-Greensburg. The Panthers started strong, winning game one 152-136, but fell in the second game 127-155. They took a commanding lead in games three and four, winning 178-120 and 159-127. They were not able to come up with the match-clinching victory as they fell in game 5 135-145, game 6 135-151, and the deciding game 115-198.

The second match of the day saw the Panthers take on Penn State-Altoona. Pitt-Bradford got off to a tough start, as they lost the first three games of the match 102-123, 137-148 and 145-151. They kept the match alive by winning game four 147-115 and splitting game five 135-135, but lost match 4 games to 2 with a 123-151 loss in game six.

In their final match of the tournament, the Panthers took on Mount Aloysius. They won the first game 135-125, but could not build any momentum, as they lost game two 138-166. The Panthers jumped back in front with a 145-137 win in game three but lost the next two 157-165 and 153-189. The Panthers extended the match with a 167-150 win in game six, setting up a winner-take-all rubber game. In the 7th, the Panthers could not keep up with the Mounties, and lost 139-168, losing the match 3-4.

The Panthers will look to battle back next weekend, as they head to New Jersey City to bowl in the 2nd AMCC Round Robin of the season. The action will begin on Friday at Bowlero in North Brunswick, N.J.
