Panthers Improve Scores, Finish 1-3 on Day 2 of AMCC Round Robin

Kenmore, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's bowling team took to the lanes for the second day of AMCC Round Robin 1 on Saturday. The Panthers took on some tough competition, and despite improving their scores, posted a 1-3 record on the day.

Bowling in Baker format with total pinfall over 5 games determining the winner, the Panthers won their opening game, but then dropped three straight after a bye in the 2nd grouping of matches.

Pitt-Bradford started their day with a 767-731 win over LaRoche. The Panthers built an early lead, winning the first four games of the match, and held off a late charge to earn the win. They won the opening game 143-140 and then easily took game two 183-156. After scratching out a 133-132 victory in the 3rd game, they opened up a 70-pin lead with a 170-131 win in the fourth. In the final game, they fell 138-172 but had a large enough cushion to escape with the win. Ekaterina Wilson led the Panthers with a score of 152, while Brookelyn Garvey posted a 149.

The second match of the day saw the Panthers take on conference newcomer Alvernia, falling 786-858. The Panthers fell behind early, dropping the opening game 143-171. Pitt-Bradford won the 5th game 179-168, but could not make up the deficit. Freshman Erin Wales led the Panthers with 168 pins, while Wilson was a pin behind her at 167.

The Panthers had their best Baker match of the season in their third of the day, but unfortunately for Pitt-Bradford, it came against conference leader Saint Vincent, who posted a monster score, defeating Pitt-Bradford 986-880. The Panthers lost 4 of the 5 games of the match, with the Bearcats surpassing 200 in three different matches. Pitt-Bradford posted their best score of the day to open the match in a 193-211 loss in game 1. The deficit grew over the next two games with The Panthers falling 179-193 and 154-204. They were able to finish even with Saint Vincent in game 4 tying at 172, before falling in the 5th game 182-206. Alexis Whitfield led the Panthers at 181. Wales had another strong showing in the match, finishing at 180.

The Panthers struggled to maintain their high-scoring form in the final match of the day, losing to New Jersey City 728-745. They started strong in a tough game-one loss, falling 177-181, but had their worst game of the day in the 2nd, losing 100-132. The deficit grew to 50 after a 139-153 loss in the 3rd game. The Panthers battled back in the 4th, winning 157-114 putting them down 7 pins heading into the final game. In the last game, they were unable to pull out the comeback, falling 155-165.
