Garvey Named Tournament MVP, Panthers Finish 7th

The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's bowling team was back at the lanes for the second day of competition at the Daemen Storm Fall Classic on Sunday. The Panthers posted a 1-4 record on the day and finished the event in 7th. Brookelyn Garvey was named Tournament MVP for her performance over the two days.

After going 4-1 in the traditional scoring format on day one, the Panthers moved into Baker bowling for the second day of competition. The new format was not as kind to the Panthers, as they went 1-4 on the day. They finished the event 5-5 and in 7th place.

Pitt-Bradford started the day on a high note, as they defeated Ursuline 751-720 in the opener. The Panthers won the first four matches easily, taking a 111-pin lead into the final game. In the 5th, the Panthers struggled to keep momentum and lost 106-166, but had a large enough cushion heading into the game to emerge victorious.

In their second match of the day, the Panthers took on fellow AMCC member Saint Vincent. Pitt-Bradford dropped the first game 133-165 but battled back to win the next two 140-135 and 183-158. They trailed the Bearcats by just two pins heading into game four, but could not keep up, as they lost the next two games 143-180 and 154-182. The final score of the match was 753-820 in favor of Saint Vincent.

The Panthers followed that loss with a matchup against another conference foe in Pitt-Greensburg. Pitt-Bradford started slow, as they tied game one 143-143 and lost game two 138-149. They responded over the next two games and won 148-134 and 149-127 to take a 24-pin edge into the final game. In game 5, the Panthers struggled to score, leaving 3 frames open as they lost the game 129-161 and the match 707-714.

Pitt-Bradford faced Division II Mercyhurst in their next matchup. The Panthers bowled closer to form in the match but lost all 5 games to the Lakers. The final tally was 742-832.

The Panthers closed their day with a matchup against Roberts Wesleyan. Looking to finish the tournament on a good note, the Panthers ran into a buzz saw, as Roberts Wesleyan averaged 185.75 pins per game over their first four games to head into the last game with a 743-614 lead. In their last game, the Panthers were able to come out on top, winning 168-135, but the deficit was far too great heading into the game, as they fell in the match 782-878.

Following the completion of the competition, the tournament organizers recognized the top individual bowlers from the traditional format. Senior Brookelyn Garvey not only made her second All-Tournament Team appearance of the season but came away as the Tournament MVP. Garvey finished the tournament with an individual average of 196.80 pins per match, and a total pinfall of 984 pins over five games. This was the first collegiate Tournament MVP for Garvey, as well as the first MVP at an Invitational tournament in the Bowling program's 10-year history.

Coming off of a strong performance this weekend, the Panthers will have a week to prepare for the first AMCC Round Robin, which will be held Friday, Nov. 17th through Sunday, Nov. 19th at the Spare Time Bowling Center in Buffalo. The Panthers will face each of the other 10 AMCC teams in a 5-game total pinfall Baker match.
