Panthers Back on the Lanes for 2023-24

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford bowling team is preparing to return to action in 2023-24, looking to improve on their 5th-place finish last season.

The Panthers went 28-52 in 2022-23, with a 13-7 record in conference play. They entered the AMCC Tournament as the 4th seed, and fell to New Jersey City in the first round, bringing their season to an end. Juniors Brookelyn Garvey and Sarah Newland both earned all-conference individual honors in the season. Garvey made the 1st team after finishing 6th in overall average, including an 8th place finish in traditional average and 4th in baker bowling. Newland made the second team after she finished 10th in pin-per-frame average and 9th in the conference in strike percentage.

Looking forward to 2023-24, the Panthers were voted to finish second in the conference in the AMCC Preseason Coaches Poll. Brookelyn Garvey will likely remain in her position as the Panthers' anchor bowler with Sarah Newland bowling the setup frame before her.  Senior Ekaterina Wilson will provide valuable experience, while returners Olivia Shultz and Alexis Whitfield will look to continue to improve their scores as the season progresses. The Panthers add one newcomer to their lineup, freshman Erin Wales of Binghamton, N.Y.

The Panthers begin their season on October 7th and 8th, with a two-day tournament in Erie, hosted by Mercyhurst. They will once again bowl their pair of conference round-robin events, with the first taking place in Buffalo, N.Y. from November 17th-19th, and the second from February 2nd-4th in North Brunswick, N.J. They currently have one home event scheduled, a dual match with Penn State-Behrend on January 20th. It will take place at Billye Lanes in Bradford, Pa. Championships are scheduled from March 22nd-24th in Pittsburgh, Pa.
